When Boy Meets Nativity

I don't have many strong opinions about stupid stuff - but here's one I do have:  I think every family with children, (or clumsy parents) should have a touchable nativity set.

Immanuel.

God with us.

That's hardly true with my Willow Tree Nativity Set.

They touch it...they die.

But I think every home should have a nativity set that can be touched, played with and marveled over.

We just found the entire nativity set stacked in an 18 wheeler.

The culprit...Bryce Garratt.

When Hayden was a tiny infant, I caught Anson with the baby Jesus under his shirt.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Feeding baby Jesus," Anson said.

Immanuel.

God with us!

ha!!!!!! I don't think we've ever discussed this, but I've always had the same thing in our house - a nativity set for play and a breakable one for display. This year as Hannah unpacked the sets, we discovered that baby Jesus has gone MIA. I never even thought to look in the boys' shirts for him....

Thats my boy! We do have one that they can play with and it is their favorite thing to play with.

Now what they do with it is always a mystery.

This is hilarious. When I first saw the picture I thought of Ashton. But, it makes sense for Bryce too!

Where do you get playable nativity sets? I haven't really seen very many that aren't fancy pants. Just curious.

We got ours at Wal-Mart.

I've seen those little people ones (not as in little like the Rolof's, but little people as in the brand). I covet the Little People Nativity Set, which I'm pretty sure means I'm going straight to hell.

How come there is now a little blogger button by everyone's names? What happens if you click on it? I'm afraid.

Hi I have been reading your blog for a few weeks now. You are inspiring and honest and you are helping me grow with my 3 little boys.
What brand is your touchable kids notivity? I would like one.
Thanks and Merry Christmas.

We have the Little People Nativity and Grady loves it. The first year we got it though, Grady said Baby Jaws-us. It was so funny. Will was also trying to eat a donkey today. Talk about hands on application of scripture. Ha Ha!

We have the Playmobil set that they play with. The creche is cardboard so I thought I would buy another creche to look more "real." Bad idea, I have mossy stuff all over, but oh well. That's why I have a broom right!?!

The boys LOVE playing with it! I also saw a felt set at WalMart as well. They were sticked to be 3D, but easy to play with.

A blog stalker no longer am I - this post brought me out of hiding :) I also have the Willow Tree nativity and that's when I realized that I had to get my kids something they can play with because I was way too uptight about it. The first one we got was the Little People one and I love it. We also got a Playmobil one last year as a gift which is awesome when your kids are past choking hazard age because of all the little pieces they can play with. When my daughter was 3, she would go around the house hiding baby Jesus from Herod. Love to see all these kids reenacting the greatest story ever told. Merry Christmas!

WE have a bunch for the kids... Playmobil is one of my children's favorite things, so ours is out all-year...

Also the Little People one...

Somehow we have a small one with Veggietales puttint on a Christmas play...

The Willow Tree one is definitely off-limits, as is another ceramic kinda one.

Lyns I have seen the playmobil one and it looks cute.

Also Scripture Haven has a veggie tales one.

My mom LOVES nativity scenes. We have one in about every room. Alas, they are the fancy smancy ones. HOWEVER, this did not stop us from playing with them every year. If mom doesn't have a nativity where someone is missing an arm or a leg or a head then something is wrong. When I was younger, my sister and I just loved to "rearrange" the scene. Fun times.

When Peyton was two she took baby JEsus and we could not find him anywhere for weeks. Then right before Christmas we finally found him and put him safely back in his manger. Then for the next few days I kept a closer eye on her...the funniest thing was at one point I found my self telling her to "leave the baby Jesus alone"! (lol's) Now that is really wrong but still so funny to our family! So I guess what I am saying in a long winded sort of way is I agree!

PS I was wondering about the little blogger button yesterday myself!

I found the BEST nativity set for girls at Hobby Lobby yesterday. It is stuffed people and packs up nice and neat in a cloth manger. KK LOVES IT! Oh, and the nativity sets at Hobby Lobby are 1/2 price! So, I got a terrific deal.
